A 41-year-old Islamic man from Étampes in Essonne has been detained after allegedly sending violent death threats to gambling Winamax customer service following significant betting losses on the platform. The threats, laced with antisemitism and support of an Islamic terrorist group, were sent in a message to Winamax, sparking immediate concern and a swift response from authorities.
Winamax, a popular online betting platform, filed an official complaint on September 26 after receiving the threatening messages, which included, “To all the employees of this shitty site, I’ll kill you, you sons of bitches. Hitler was a great genius. Glory to Daesh. Filthy, filthy Jews.” The company quickly alerted police, who traced the threats back to the man in Étampes.
According to sources close to the investigation, the suspect appeared at the Étampes police station on October 7, where he was taken into custody. During questioning, he reportedly apologized, explaining his actions as a fit of frustration after losing a large sum of money on the site. He further claimed he had not meant what he wrote but believed that the platform’s owners were Jewish.
Law enforcement officers searched the man’s phone but did not find any additional evidence suggesting extremist affiliations or further threats. Following his detention, he was brought before the Evry court on October 8 under the “Comparution sur reconnaissance préalable de culpabilité” (CRPC), a French plea bargaining procedure. He is expected to appear in court again at a later date to face potential charges.
The incident has drawn attention due to the severe nature of the threats and the suspect’s references to an Islamic terrorist group, with authorities taking necessary measures to address any concerns about similar threats in the future. […]
